Parents always ask “what is the best way to get my child through the cavity prone years?” Sealants are one piece of the puzzle! Sealants are applied painlessly to the biting surface of molars and premolars to seal all the grooves of the teeth to prevent decay. The best time to place sealants is as soon as the teeth erupt. The natural anatomy of the tooth may have nooks and crannies that may be small enough that the bristles of a toothbrush may not adequately clean even with thorough brushing. Adults without decay or fillings in their molars or premolars are also great candidates for sealants to insure their teeth will stay cavity free. At your hygiene visits, our hygienists will make sure your sealant is intact and will replace them when needed to keep this important protective shield on your teeth.
